Your Eastern Cape Tour Itinerary

Day 1 Transfer from George Airport to Kwena Lodge

I will meet you at the George Airport and we will travel via the N2 to for a 3 night stay with full board. The beautiful reserve is situated near Mossel Bay and offers beside the Big 5, 300 indigenous, 30 endemic bird species and 1000 different species of Fynbos.

Accommodation in the Reserve is at Kwena Lodge – a modern and luxurious twist on the traditional Khoi- San circular dwelling. The spacious open plan unit has 180 degree views and skylights for stargazing.

After breakfast we can visit the Jakkalsvlei Wine Cellar for wine tasting, Mossel Bay with all its attractions, Albertinia for Aloe products and interesting farm stalls, or if you wish, just relax at the Reserve. The Spa offers different treatments and can be booked on arrival if you are interested.

Day 4 Gondwana – Blue Lily Bush

After the early morning game drive and breakfast, we leave the Reserve at 10am and take a leisurely drive along the N2 to our 4* star guesthouse at Blue Lily Bush, for an overnight stay B & B.

This beautiful guesthouse is situated in the heart of the Tsitsikamma Nature Reserve. The Lodge is perched on the edge of the river gorge and overlooks a 30m waterfall, with views of the wild Indian Ocean. The fine dine restaurant overlooking the ocean, offers a la carte menu and a table has been reserved for you.

Along the way, we will stop at one of the interesting farm stalls/coffee shops for a light lunch or cake, and a visit to the Radical Raptors, Birds of Prey Rehabilitation Centre. Optional stops in Knysna, Plettenberg Bay or at Animal Kingdom in the Craggs.
After an early check-in you can enjoy a leisurely walk along the different board walks in the Fern Forests or relax in the ambience of your private chalet.

Dinner has been booked for 19h00.

Day 5 – 7 Camdeboo Game Reserve

Our destination for the next 3 days is at a Private Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape. We travel along the N2 and onto the R337 towards Graaff Reinet. We drive through the towns of Uitenhage and Jansenville on our way to the Reserve. Being a 4 hour drive, we will do comfort stops along the way.

Accommodation in the main lodge with full board.

The reserve lies east of Graaff-Reinet in the heart of the malaria free Eastern Cape Great Karoo. Camdeboo means “Place of green hills or pools” in ancient Khoisan. The Reserve is encircled by 97 km of fencing and is 14000 hectares in extent. It hosts a maximum of 24 guests and offers over 500 hectares of open space per person.

The first people to inhabit the Camdeboo plain were the San people more than a 125000 years ago. One of the historical sites in the Reserve is the San (Bushman) paintings. The Reserve is also rich in Jurassic Fossils.

Mount Camdeboo is made out of 4 bionomes – Nama Karoo, Savannah, Succelent Karoo and Grass. Over 220 bird species have been counted in the Reserve.

  • Guided bush walks
  • Project walk – an easy 2hr morning walk along the valley to take in the various breeding projects on the reserve.

Should you wish to visit the Valley of Desolation or Nieu Bethesda again, we can take a drive down there. Prehistoric fossil trails can be explored.

Day 8-10 Riverbend Lodge at Addo

After our early game drive and breakfast, we say goodbye to this lovely place and continue our travel pass the towns of Somerset East and Cookhouse to River Bend Lodge for a 3 night stay with full board.

Being a 2h30 min drive, we have time to do so sightseeing along the way.

River Bend Lodge is located on a private concession within the malaria free Addo Elephant Park. The lodge offers luxury accommodation, spa facilities, free wifi, spa facilities and private game drives. Other activities include star gazing, bird watching and walking safaris.
The daily schedule will be submitted to me later and will be included in your final itinerary that you will receive on arrival in George.

Day 11 Grahamstown (Makhanda) (B)

Today we travel to Makhanda (Grahamstown) for a guided cultural and historical tour of the city with fascinating stops along the way. We overnight in a historical 4* Victorian manor Guesthouse.

Day 12 Hogsback (B)

After breakfast our travels continue to the beautiful mountain town of Hogsback with its Amatole forests, waterfalls, the Eco-Shrine and fairy meander.

Day 13 Bathurst and Port Alfred (B)

This morning we visit the quaint little town of Bathurst and visit the world’s largest pineapple – The Big Pineapple, the oldest working pub in the country – the Pig & Whistle; eccentric shops and art galleries, a museum of hoes and wagons.

Late afternoon we drive to Port Alfred, a very popular holiday destination on the Sunshine Coast for an overnight stay. Dinner in town.

Day 14 Port Elizabeth / George

Departure to PE for your return flight.
